Wauncrychydd

Wauncrychydd was a farm in the hamlet of Hengoed near Five Roads about two and a quarter miles from Llanelli and marked on Colby’s Map of 1831.The Dundas Family acquired the property, but it is not known why they showed an interest in the area as they do not appear to have been involved in the industrial or commercial development of the town.

1826 On 10 January 1826 Sir David Dundas, who had been created Baronet in 1815, died and his title and estate passed to his eldest son William Dundas.

1828 Captain John Dundas, younger brother of William Dundas, married Caroline Jeffreys, daughter of the Rector of Barnes in Surrey.

1829 Sir William Dundas was High Sheriff of Carmarthen.

1840 Sir William Dundas died unmarried and childless in November and his title and estate passed to his younger brother, Sir James Fullerton Dundas, a Major General in the Bengal Artillery and the Indian Army.

1848 Sir James Dundas also died unmarried and childless on 16 June. The title and estate passed to his younger brother, Captain Sir John Burnett Dundas.

1868 Sir John Dundas, 4th Baronet, who had joined the Royal Navy, risen to the rank of Admiral died on 2 September without issue. The Baronetcy became extinct.

1871 Lady Dundas died.
