James Hansard of the firm H W and J Hansard of Swansea, Llanelly and Bridgend is the second son of Mr H B Hansard of Merthyr Tydfil and was born in Merthyr Tydfil in 1847. He was educated at Fuller’s Academy and then entered the offices of Messrs Crawley at Cyfarthfa, where he continued for ten years, relinquishing his post to commence business in partnership with his brother as aerated water manufacturers in Swansea.

They have traded together for twenty-four years and have established a reputation throughout the district in which their works are situated for the excellence of their various temperance beverages. Besides works at the three places already mentioned, the firm has stores at Neath, Carmarthen, Llandilo, Lampeter and Newcastle Emlyn.

Mr Hansard is a Member of the Llanelly Urban District Council and is Chairman of the Sanitary Committee and also a Member of the Harbour Commissioners. He is a Wesleyan Methodist and has filled all the important offices in connection with that church for many years past.
