Greyhound Inn, Felinfoel

Greyhound Inn, Felinfoel

The Greyhound Inn, Felinfoel, was typical of the small inns in Felinfoel which made their own beer before the brewery was established. There was a little room in the Greyhound known as ‘Cegin Facsu’ which means brewing room. This room was later turned into a storage room and is still in the pub today. The Greyhound is in a lane alongside the brewery.

Note: Cegin Facsu - the room at Greyhound was called ‘y gegin faxsy’. The correct spelling of ‘faxsy’ is ‘macsu’, and the phrase is correct, ‘cegin facsu’ being the Welsh term for ‘brewing room’. The Welsh for the verb ‘to brew’ is ‘macsu’, and since ‘cegin’ (‘kitchen’) is a feminine noun, the ‘m’ in ‘macsu’  changes to ‘f’.
