Mansel Arms, Church Street

Mansel Arms, Church Street
A licensed premises has been on this site since 1750. Of the five inns in Church Street in 1872 the Mansel Arms is the only one remaining, the others were the Salutation (next to the Athenaeum), Ship Inn, British Tar and the Union Inn.
In the 19th century the Old Town Hall in Hall Street was used for Court proceedings, and because it lacked basic facilities the Mansel Arms was often used as a retiring room for witnesses. On many occasions members of the jury walked from the Town Hall to the Mansel Arms to consider their verdict.
An advertisement appeared in the Llanelly Guardian on 8 June 1899 describing the Mansel Hotel, Llanelly, as HQ of the Llanelly Football Club. Also, that the old established Hotel had ‘been re-built in the most modern style with all conveniences and perfect sanitary arrangements’.
The present Mansel Arms was re-built in 1899 on the site of the original building.
