The Rolling Mill Inn, Station Road

In 1867 William Morgan, his wife Emma (nee Mitchell) and their family moved to the Rolling Mill, Salamanca Road (now Station Road). William was employed by the brewery as a publican and he also worked as a rollerman in the Ironworks in Station Road.

At that time Salamanca Road ran from Greenfields (Moriah Chapel) to the Rolling Mill. It is not certain whether William Morgan came to Llanelli primarily to run the newly established Rolling Mill or whether he came to work as a rollerman in the local Ironworks. It was not uncommon for the men to work in the industries and their wives to run the public houses. Emma would have been familiar with innkeeping because her father, John Mitchell, was landlord of the Red Lion on the corner of High Street and Pond Street in Dowlais.

Salamanca Road later was re-named Station Road.
